BringCom is recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of our team members. Our second spotlight, John Davis, has been working with BringCom since the VERY beginning. John came to BringCom in 2008 – and after 22 years he’s a crucial asset to the team. We hope you enjoy getting to know John!

What motivated you to pursue your career path?
I discovered this career path while seeking a night shift job to complement my daytime work as a carpenter. A close friend informed me about an opportunity in the Network Operations Center (NOC) for a satellite communications company during the evenings. He described the role as straightforward, involving monitoring a spectrum analyzer to ensure the carrier signal remains stable, performing hourly equipment checks, and occasionally answering phone calls. I quicky became interested in how everything worked, continued to take on more responsibilities and next thing I knew it I was doing it full time.
How long have you been with the company, and what roles have you held?
I started with LCN in 2002 which was acquired by BringCom in 2008. So, 22 years this year. Over the years, I have held various positions, including NOC Operator, NOC Supervisor, and NOC Manager.
What is your current role, and what does a typical day look like for you?
My current role is NOC Manager – a typical day involves reviewing trouble tickets, monitoring the performance of the network and endpoints, handling escalations raised by the NOC staff, and providing support to the sales and program management teams.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
It is difficult to single out one aspect, but I love the challenges I encounter (despite any complaints). I greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet and work with a diverse range of individuals.
What are some of the challenges you face in your role, and how do you overcome them?
One of the biggest personal challenges I have faced occurred when BringCom transitioned from offering satellite services and ceased teleport operations. The systems I had helped build and manage throughout my career were suddenly obsolete, and my team was reduced as we shifted to fiber services. Since most of these new fiber services were provided by third-party suppliers, and the BringCom Network Operations Center (NOC) lacked visibility, it made it challenging to resolve issues directly. Additionally, I was not as familiar with the technologies used in these new circuits.
Over time, we have worked closely with suppliers to enhance Service Level Agreements (SLAs), improve documentation, and establish clear expectations for incident and problem management. Our network has expanded to several Points of Presence (PoPs) in Africa, significantly improving our circuit monitoring capabilities. I also had the opportunity to lead BringCom’s implementation of a Tier 1 NOC in Kampala, Uganda.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I still see myself with BringCom in the next 10 years, hopefully in an executive position.
What are some personal interests or hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
I have always had a love for Jeeps and have owned one since I was a teen. I have traveled a lot of the US to tackle many off-road trails. I’ve recently taken up a new hobby of growing succulents and other house plants.
